London Valour 50th Anniversary

London Valour

There is a planned group of LOF personnel, there families and relations going out to Genoa Italy in April this year.

A group of us went out in 2010 and this can be found on the archives of this website.

Denise Dardini from the British Consulate has been liaising with the port authority and has advised me of the following:

Commemorations commence on the 8th April with an exhibition of news reels, photographs etc.

On the 9th there will be a service in the Anglican church, then at the quayside with the Italian Coastguard who will take us out on cutters to lay wreaths.

The Propeller Club of Genova has offered a conference and dinner on the evening of the 9th.

It appears that the Italian Authorities are making a special effort for the event and are delighted that crew members and families are coming across from the UK.

I’ll pass on information regarding planned events as soon as I get updates from Denise.

I have friends in Genova who are trying to trace the whereabouts of the ships wheel, and we have been trying to trace the graves of the ships crew who were interned in the city. Hopefully we’ll have progress on this before April.

I’ll make enquiries regarding hotel accommodation in the city and advise everyone accordingly.
